Hi my name is Valerie, aka Vboogie Many people call me by nickname, Vboogie! I have been doing Zumba for the past 8 years and it is something that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE! The reason why I am so in love with Zumba is simple, each class that I teach really feels like a party! It’s working out, but really fun. I could go all day if I wanted to. What is Zumba?

What is Zumba Dance Fintess? If you are newbie and have no idea as to what Zumba is, let me give you a quick breakdown.

What is Zumba? Zumba is a high-energy dance class that is set to upbeat Latin music and you end up doing different choreographed dance routines that you see at some of the best nightclubs in Latin America.

Essentially, Zumba is a dance fitness class where you dance to get fit and lose weight. The Zumba tagline, “Ditch the Workout, Join the Party,” the classes focuses on moving to the music and having a good time, no rhythm required.

There are different kinds of Zumba classes and you can find yourself doing Aqua Zumba workouts, which is done in a pool. You also have Zumba Toning, that incorporate weights for additional calorie burning and strength training. You can even bring your kids along, as they have specific Zumba classes for them.

The great thing about Zumba, is that in a 60-minute class, you will be able to burn on average, 369 calories. This is a really intense class, as it burns more that step aerobics or cardio kickboxing.
With Zumba, you will get great cardio workout that burns fat, strengthens your core, and improves flexibility.

Zumba dance is worth it, just based on the fact that you are having fun and getting healthy. There are so many reasons, but you just have to come and experience it for yourself..

Zumba in action

The great thing about the class is that you get to meet a ton of cool and amazing people. If you have some hesitations, especially if you feel like you can't dance, then don't. The class is pretty easy and you go at your own pace. Noone will be juding you. Take a look at some pictures for my class.

What to Expect at zumba dance fitness class?

My classes are super fun and if you are first timer, come to enjoy yourself. While Zumba is an intense workout, it really won’t feel like a drag. There is so much variation, all these different dances moves, electrifying music and super-dope people, that you are definitely going to enjoy themselves.

I often get feedback from noobs who have never done a Zumba class and they always say the same thing “I didn’t realize it was so fun”.

If you have any apprehensions or think you can’t dance, just come on by and try it out, I guarantee you are going to LOVE IT.

Zumba Dance Class: Frequently Asked Questions


I can’t stress this enough, but you should definitely be looking to be as comfortable as possible for this intense class. So you need to consider wearing clothes that you will feel at ease moving around in. You can wear anything from sweat pants, shorts, loose fittings tops and anything else. Whatever is lightweight and fits you right, is the good thing to wear. It is not a good idea to wear jeans to Zumba class, as that is something you might regret.

When it comes to shoes, you can wear anything that is comfortable to dance in. If you want to take it up a notch, you can wear sneakers that are designed specifically for Zumba. (This website has a pretty good selection). While dance aerobics shoes are a good option, they are not a must. If you decide to wear whatever shoes you have, keep in mind to stay away from running shoes. Running sneakers have too much grip and they will not work in Zumba, especially with all the twists and turns that you will be doing.

You should know that it is pretty important to stay hydrated. If you can drink some water before class and carry with you a bottle of water or Gatorade, as you are going to be losing a lot of liquids and you will need to replenish it.

 You can also bring along a towel as you are going to get sweaty and you might need to dry off.


Off the bat, Zumba is one pretty intense class. You will be doing a variety of moves, from twists, turns and jumping. If you suffer from bad knees or any other ailment, then it is a good idea to let one of your instructors know. If they are aware of your situation, they probably can recommend different moves for you to do that is not as stressful on the body. 


This will all depend on what your doctor has to say. If you get the OK, then it is ok to come to the class. Bare in mind that there might be some excercises that you will not be able to do, so tell the instructors before you begin.
